- Perjalanan – A Long Road-

The Story Begins

(story teller)

In a long, long, long road. Road without end. Walk, 4 people. They are friends. Bestfriend. The road is so long, they cannot see where they go, where they are heading. Everyone of them now, still on the same road. But the long road is not only long, but it have branch. Many. And here, the branches is appear before them. They must choose one from the many. And it is a must.

(SCENE 1- The four friends, walk, walk, and walk. Together. From the back of the pentas, to the front. One of them, that is walk at the front is stopped. Followed by the others)

A- Why are you stopping?

B- Look, our path. It is diverging.

C- Yeah right, so, what do we need to do now?

A- Why don’t we choose our path? Together. We must not divide now. Together we strong, alone we will fall.

D- But how? Too many branches here. So, what criteria that we must evaluate before we choose??

(A moment of silence)

A- Democracy!!! Yeah, votes. The path where have the highest votes is the choosen one. We all will follow the path together.

C- That is a good idea. I think we can do that. So what do you say B and D?

B- Our life is not a country. For country, yeah, you can do the voting to search for the right President. Why? Because he will lead everyone, lead the whole country. It is not the same as the our life. Our life is ours, why depend on others to choose for your life???

A- But we are friend.

D- I am in line with B’s idea. Yeah, we are friend, but who knows the future??? Life is like that. And I think we can always be friend although we choose the different path. Now is the modern era. Right.

(silence)....

B- if that your say, I wish you all luck. Here we are separated. Physically separated. But our heart must not separated. Must be the same, now, tomorrow, and in the future. Okay??? Now, my advice is think carefully. And whatever path we choose, never regret, never give up.

A, C, D- Okay.

(Everyone is looked through the roads, trying to choose the best for them)

B- I am sorry guys, I think I decided my path. I can see this path is smooth, no, disturbances, it is looked like a very safe route. And I can see that many footprints of people that use this road. Okay, Till then…

(B is Going back stage use the path on the right)

C- B choose an easy route, yeah, many people must using it. So, I think this is the best route for me. Although it looks hard route, bengkang-bengkok, theres thorn and others, but there is no competition. Not many people must using this road. Okay, I go first. Good bye.

A- Wait, can I go with you? We are the best friend right. So, if I go with you, we will become stronger. If you have problem, I help you and vice versa. Okay? Lagipun, I don’t know where I want to go. I cannot make the decision.

C- okay, lets go.

(C and A going to back stage using the path on the left)

D- (Thinking like) theres is many path in front of me. This path must be created by the people before us. So why don’t I try to create new path? For myself. According to my desire.

(D angkat beg, then, jump from the stage)

(story teller) 

Different path. Go, go, and go. Slowly. Follow the path that is chosen. And of course every path must have its branches. And the branches sometime will make the friends, further from each other. Although it becomes further and further, whatever path that you follow, sometimes, it just intersect with the others path. And in a reunion, these 4 friend’s path, cross each other. 

(SCENE 2- The reunion. The 4 friends enter the stage, from different place. Then, they bertemu.)

C- Hi all of you. Wow, it is soo long we do not bertemu, right.

B- Yeah. Well, as we are all here, why don’t share our experience? Jobs now, or whatever?

D- that is a good idea. Okay let me tell you first. Remember that day? I am the last right? So, what path that I taken? No path. I make the path. New one, based on my interest. And now, here I am, as a freelance. In drawing comics, and sometimes write novel, stories. I really like my life now because this is my interest to begin with.

B- Wow. that’s pretty amazing. To be happy with what you are doing. Not like me I guess. Yeah, now, I am an officer in a government company. The salary is pretty good, stable. But it do not interesting. Doing work, the same work over and over. Everyday. Its is tired. Really.

C- You must preservere, try to makes something interesting there. Oh, A, why do you silence all this while? Before this you is the person that is the most talkative among us.

A- Errm. I am sorry. I just think that all of you is changed. All of you is like sky for me. I shame with myself.

C- Why?

A- C, do you remember that the time when we separated from each other? You is a great man, you managed to pass the challenge. But I am not. As I do not know what to do, I am going hometown. To my village. Works there. As a rubber tapper and others. Until now. I do not know what to do. 

C- Ow. I am sorry because left you behind.

A- Nevermind. I understand your decision.

C- Okay, so, from what A said before, yeah, the path that we choose is really hard. So hard, like a hell. Everyday is a test to our determination. And because of that hardness, make me stronger. Make me become like me today.

B- So, what are you doing now?

C- I am a manager in an agriculture based company that I created by myself. And if you have problems, you can go to me. If I can help, it is my pleasure.

D- okay, I need to go now. I am a bit busy lately. I am sorry.

C- I know we all busy now, but if we have any time, why don’t we meet again. Like this. Okay?

A, B and D- Okay.

(everyone is keluar, by using their own path)

(Story teller) 

Path. Everyone have different one. There is no right or wrong path. It is just the way we walk on it. Never regret with our choice. Once regret come, the path is becoming a hell.
